This project consisted of the construction of a new direct-buy chilled water distribution loop designed to serve multiple buildings on the south side of Western Illinois University’s campus, while also providing capacity for future expansion.
The project included the installation of a new centralized cooling plant featuring a 1,500-ton water-cooled chiller, associated chilled water pumps, condenser water pumps, and a cooling tower system. In addition, more than 7,000 linear feet of direct-buy chilled water piping was installed, ranging in size from 24” mains down to 4” branch piping.
This infrastructure upgrade provides WIU with a reliable, efficient, and expandable campus cooling system designed to support both current operational demands and future growth.
